December 5th is not only the birthdate of Thailand’s beloved King Bhumibol Adulyadej. This date is also "World Soil Day" by the United Nations. Hiroyuki Konuma, FAO’s Assistant Director-General, said “We recall with gratitude the untiring personal commitment of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej to the cause of soil, not only within Thailand but also internationally.” This passion for soils and their key contribution to food security and sustainable development has been recognized globally. Naturally, December 5th has been chosen to honour His Majesty.
