Muay Thai (Thai Boxing) is a Thai martial art that uses fists, feet, knees, elbows as weaponry. Ancient Thai warriors trained Muay Thai to fight in close combat. Muay Thai was first introduced to the Western countries during World War I when Thailand sent its military forces to support the Allied. During the stationing in France, Thai commanders organised boxing in a military base to promote morale of all soldiers. Besides, many French soldiers were interested and participated in duelling with other boxers.
Nowadays, Muay Thai is known all over the world. Many foreigners travel to Thailand to train in this martial art. Also, Muay Thai International Championships are organised to promote this Thai tradition globally.
